International Scholarship

The IOA International Outreach Committee (IOC) will offer financial support to sponsor one organizational ombudsman to attend the 2020 IOA Annual Conference who is an IOA member or prospective member and is working in a country where the profession is not well developed. Through this scholarship initiative, IOA’s overall goal is to provide greater access for practicing organizational ombuds in countries that the IOA recognizes would greatly benefit from outreach, support, and development in the ombuds field.

Full or partial funding toward travel and accommodation will be awarded to one successful applicant, who may also benefit from having the registration fees for the pre-conference course Foundations of Organizational Ombudsman Practice waived if they have not taken it already. Priority will be given to applicants whose participation can be instrumental in the advancement of the organizational ombuds profession in their regions/countries.

Applications will be reviewed by the IOC Scholarship Coordinators. Recommendations will then be submitted to the International Outreach Committee for endorsement. The International Outreach Committee will decide which applicants will receive funding and the amount of expense covered.

Eligibility Criteria & Scholarship Requirements

To apply for a scholarship, applicants must:

  • Practice as an organizational ombudsman in a country outside of the United States, where the profession is not well developed. Other types of ombudsman professionals (i.e. classic ombudsman) or other professionals are not eligible.
  • Provide evidence of financial need
  • Participation of the recipient as a presenter or panel member during the Annual Conference is desirable but not a pre-requisite.
  • Foundations Training: In addition, if the recipient of this scholarship has not previously taken the IOA Foundations of Organizational Ombudsman Practice course, they may also apply to have the fee waived.
  • IOA membership is not required. Scholarship applicants and recipients are encouraged to consider joining IOA.

Please note: the application form will ask you to estimate your travel expenses including airfare, ground transportation, daily subsistence allowance (DSA), and hotel accommodations (the #IOA2020 hotel discounted room rate is listed at $199 USD + taxes and fees.)
