Equity, Inclusion, and Allyship in the Ombud Office
Date & Time: Wednesday April 3rd | 1:00PM - 2:30PM
Presented By: Emma Phan, University of Washington, Chuck Sloane, University of Washington & Prisca Youn, University of Washington
Session Description:
There is increasing emphasis in organizations on attracting a diverse workforce, and creating more inclusive environments. Ombuds need to be able to engage in frank discussions of equity, inclusion, bias and discrimination – both to identify workable options for the individual, and to be able to assess and provide meaningful feedback to their organizations at the systemic level. This presentation will focus on best practices to intentionally engage in those conversations.

Learning Objectives:
- Learn about best practices from leaders in diversity, equity, and inclusion work, particularly around the discussion of difference.
- Engage in a discussion focused on the question: in a profession that is not diverse, how do you engage in allyship with diverse visitors?
- Participants will discover/uncover with their peers the challenges or barriers to engaging in discussions of equity, justice, and inclusion in the Ombuds office.
