Description

The session will debate how an ombuds can contribute effectively to the protection of employees from harassment, sexual harassment, abuse of authority, and discrimination (HSHAAD) with a victim-centered approach. It will first explore how an ombuds can develop effective strategies to receive the necessary information on HSHAAD within the organization, how to map key stakeholders, and how to find strategies to influence them. In order to further advance the topic in the organization, it is important to find ways to change the minds of reluctant key persons within the organization. Gabrielle Kluck, Ombudsman of the World Food Programme, will then describe concrete examples of how the ombuds can drive an organization to advance the protection of its employees from HSHAAD by: setting up effective policies on HSHAAD; raising awareness and educating employees with internal campaigns on the topic; institutionalizing peer-nominated “respectful workplace advisors”; training managers on how to address matters of harassment, sexual harassment, abuse of authority, and discrimination; cooperating effectively with other key departments of the organization, including human resources, training, enterprise risk management and others. The session will also provide opportunities for exchange of others’ experiences.
